Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effects of Neutral Eohyeol(Yuxue) herbal acupuncture and Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san) on fracture healing in rats.
Methods: We divided the subjects into 5 groups : normal, control with no treatment, Sample ¥° taken with Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san), Sample ¥± taken with Neutral Eohyeol(Yuxue) herbal acupuncture and sample ¥² taken with Neutral Eohyeol(Yuxue) herbal acupuncture and Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san) groups. We induced penetrating fracture on femur in control, sample ¥°, ¥± and ¥² groups. And after serum T-ALP, serum osteocalcin, histological changes, and the degree of TGF-¥â1 in each group were observed at the 7th day and at the 14th day respectively.
Results: All the sample groups showed significant changes in serum T-ALP, histological observation and TGF-beta 1 compared with control group. Especially sample ¥² was more effective than other groups in fracture healing. However, serum osteocalcin insignificantly increased at the 14th day. It seemed that 14 day was too short to evaluate osteocalcin.
Conclusions: It is suggested that Neutral Eohyeol(Yuxue) herbal acupuncture and Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san) may play a significant role in fracture healing and these two treatments could be more effective when used together.
